Dana Howard is the deputy director of Communications for Covered California. He joined Covered California in January of 2013 with a personal commitment to play a part in implementing the organization’s historic mission to bring access to quality, affordable health care to Californians.

Prior to his position at Covered California, he was Chief of Business Outreach and Industry Relations for California’s Department of Toxic Substances Control.  While there, he helped educate businesses and community organizations about the Safer Consumer Products regulation.

His career in media and public relations spans more than 30 years- nearly 20 of which were invested at News10 in Sacramento.   Dana was one of the operations news anchors and specialized in investigative consumer reporting.

Before joining News10 in late 1992, he worked at WWL-TV in New OrleansLouisiana from 1988-1992 and at KHSL-TV in Chico, California from 1985-1988, and an Assignment Editor at KPIX CBS 5 News in San Francisco. In his more than 20 years of working in broadcast news, Dana has won multiple Emmy Awards and Associated Press Awards along with Best of the West, New Orleans Press Club and RTNDA

Dana is also a founding board member of Closing the Gap.  The organization funds other non-profits focused on Closing the Academic Achievement Gap in the Sacramento region.
