Dr.. Samad is also the President of Samad and Associates, a strategic planning/ urban affairs firm specializing in the assessment and management of public policy, economic development, urban, social and race issues. His firm’s twenty year efforts has generated over $300 million in economic development opportunities in urban and rural communities nationwide.
A former NAACP Branch President (Los Angeles, CA 1988-1989), Dr.. Samad’s community involvement includes currently serving as the managing director and host of the Urban Issues Forum of Greater Los Angeles—a popular monthly public affairs forum (www.urbanissuesforum.com) that discusses critical issues impacting urban communities—hosting such dignitaries as Professor Cornel West, Winnie Mandela and Senator (now President) Barack Obama. He is also the Immediate Past President of 100 Negro Hombres de Los Angeles, Inc.
His other civic memberships include being a member of Phi Beta Sigma and Sigma Pi Phi fraternities as well as a Past Master of Free and Accepted Masons, Prince Hall Affiliation. His professional involvements include the American Political Science Association and the National Association of Black Journalists. He has received over 200 awards and citations for his community advocacy work, including elevation to the 33rd and last degree in 1994, the prestigious 2007 “Drum Major Award” from the Southern Christian Leadership Conference of Greater Los Angeles and 2008 “Member of the Year” from the 100 Negro Hombres de Los Angeles.
For the past three years Dr. Samad has served as the publisher of Who’s Who In Black Los Angeles with Who’s Who Publishing, the nation’s largest black achievement and networking directory publisher, currently publishing in 22 cities nationwide. En 2008, Dr.. Samad was selected as one of the eight finalists to replace commentator Tavis Smiley on the Tom Joyner Morning Show and has provided commentary for Ebony Magazine, MSNBC and C-SPAN.
