Dr. Gerald Horne è un afro-americano storico, autore, e comunista, che attualmente detiene il John J. e Rebecca Moores Cattedra di Storia e African American Studies presso l'Università di Houston. He received his Ph.D. from Columbia University and a J.D. presso la University of California, Berkeley. Lui è un frequente contributore alla rivista politica.

Autore prolifico, Horne has published on W. E. B. Dubois and has written books on a wide range of neglected but by no means marginal or minor episodes of world history. He specializes in illuminating previously obscure or misrepresented struggles of humanity for social justice, in particolare, communist struggles and struggles against imperialism, colonialismo, fascism, and racism. Individuals whose lives his work has highlighted in their historical contexts have included the blacklisted Hollywood screenwriter John Howard Lawson, Ferdinand Smith(Comunista nato in Giamaica, marinaio, leader sindacale), the perplexing Lawrence Dennis, un razzista afro-americano fascista e che passava per il bianco, e la femminista, anti-colonialista, internationalist intellectual Shirley Graham DuBois whose own career was overshadowed by that of her famous husband.
