Dr. Shirley Nash-Weber

Assembly Member Shirley Nash Weber was elected in November of 2012 to represent California’s 79th Assembly District, which includes the cities of Bonita, Chula Vista, La Mesa, Lemon Grove, National City, and San Diego. Assemblymember Shirley Nash Weber, a Democrat representing the cities of Chula Vista, La Mesa, Lemon Grove, National City, and San Diego, was elected to the California State Assembly in 2012. Dr. Weber previously served as a professor at California State University, San Diego, was the former president of the San Diego Unified School District Board of Education and chaired the San Diego Citizens Equal Opportunity Commission. She earned her B.A., M. A., en Ph.D. van die Universiteit van Kalifornië, Los Angeles. Weber’s legislative agenda is focused on small business procurement, K-12 education curriculum, openbare veiligheid, student financial aid, and juvenile justice youth assistance programs.

Assembly Member Weber has lived in the 79th Assembly District for over 30 jaar. Her children attended public school in the district and she was elected to the school board. As a board member and subsequent board president, she became known for her advocacy for closing the achievement gap and a higher standard of excellence for all children.

  1. I am honored to say, during my years attending San Diego State University, Dr. Shirley Weber served as professor over the Africana Studies Department in which I minored. She was a force to be reckoned with and always on the frontline in her fight for public education and uplift of the black community.
