As a strategist, Jasmyne Cannick has worked at all levels of government developing custom-tailored communications strategies and messages for elected officials, political campaigns, and non-profit organizations. She successfully served several terms as a Press Secretary in the California State Assembly before going to Washington to work in the House of Representatives. Locally she’s worked for several city and county governments in the areas of public affairs and communications. Hoy, as a public affairs and communications strategist, Jasmyne continues to work on numerous local, state and federal candidate and ballot measure campaigns in California and has also expanded her practice to include working with some of California’s top criminal defense and civil rights attorneys.
Jasmyne has been the prominent voice in support of Latisha Nixon as she presses for justice in the murder of her son Gemmel. Latisha Nixon is asking the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department to launch a “thorough investigation” into her son Gemmel Moore’s death. Moore, 26, was found dead on July 27, 2017, while working as an escort. The death was ruled an accident, but Nixon is skeptical. Sheriff’s detectives recently presented evidence from their investigation of L.A. County District Attorney Jackie Lacey’s office. Lt Joe Mendoza, in an interview with WEHOville, said the Sheriff’s Department had offered limited immunity to some potential witnesses who might otherwise have been vulnerable to prosecution for drug use or prostitution. Mendoza said some potential witnesses would not accept the offer. Lacey’s office has yet to say whether it will bring charges against Buck.
