  1. I am not one to normally criticize my people but I must speak on Marie Deary. I live in Long Beach and was around when Marie ran her book store (2000 + Books) off PIne Ave. She is not a very kind lady. She treated the black men badly and often left them left fuming because of the bad service Her husband was very cordial and would engage in conversation with the customers when they were shopping in the store. However, Maria was stand-offish, never smiled and acted like she was above other, probably because of her credentials. I bought a book at her store once because I am an educator I am a strong believer of supporting black business. During that time I felt unwelcome during visit. When I returned the second time and was brushed off by Marie again. She was short with her word and gave me an unkind stare. I was done and never returned. I live downtown Long Beach where here business was located and when I saw her walking down the street, i didn’t acknowledge – I just kept pushing. It wasn’t long before her business faltered and the doors closed permanently. She tried to blame it on the changing demographic in the city but that’s far from the truth. Other black businesses in the area thrived and still around to this day. The owner at one of the business in Downtown Long Beach (Shades of Afrika) personally told me that a lot of her customers complained about the bad treatment they received by Maria when they visited her book store. When she told me that, I knew for a fact that I was not being petty. After Marie business closed down, she tried to reopen it by moving closer to where the White folks live off 2nd street. Again, she failed. I believe she tried to open a third time in Bixby Knowles, closer to her home but that didn’t last either. Trust me when I say KJLH, Maria puts on a front like she down for black people but its far from the truth. She has this love hate thing going on. I truly belive she has a disdain for African-Americans – those who are not African. Now I see she has a new gig, doing Wealth Management Financial work as an advisor and trying to build her rep using KJLH to garner business. If the listeners only knew the truth about this wicked woman. As the saying goes, all the glitter isn’t gold. Anyway, I just had to vent my frustration. How one makes you feel could last a lifetime and how Marie made me feel in the early 2000’s still lingers. When I heard her on the KJLH talking about taxes this morning, I immediately went back to that moment. So again, she will never get my business and only bad reviews. I will, however, continue to support black businesses, as I am sure there are plenty of other black advisors available. But Maria, you got to go. Finally, Maria looks nothing like the picuture on this site. Make up does wonders.

  2. There are those times when life can be simply amazing. This is one of those times. I was following links on KJLH which listed
    Serving Spoon’s 35th anniversary celebrations.

When I went to the page I was surprised to see Marie Deary. I was so upset with all my efforts to get cooperation from Marie Deary
and her company Wealth Management, I wanted to either write Dominique Di Prima or be a call in guess to share my experience.

As a retiree I could not afford to lose the money. Just like Kev I tortured with my thoughts of sharing my experience or just letting
it go. I decided not to share my experiences and then I saw Marie on the KJLH site and all the betrayal came back to me as if it were yesterday.

Dominique it’s not your fault in any way. Marie makes such a good broadcast presentation after I listened to her on your show the
second time I found myself totally caught up in her persuasion and hired Wealth Management to preform an Offer In Compromise
    with Chase Bank.

When I met Marie I told her how impressed I was with sincerity of her broadcast and those broadcasts drew me to Marie.
Marie told me about the range of services Wealth Management offered. I needed those services but caution said wait and see
how Maarie conducts business with the services I paid for.

There’s so much history to this story. I have many documents that will back up my claims.
The following is my last plea to Marie. US mail with Certified Returned Receipt.

    Re: CHASE BANK

    Marie,

I have for so long dreaded having to write you. It is really sad I have to carry the burden of asking you to explain why the lack of communicating with me has been so shameful.

Is this the reputation you want for your business? Failure to communicate after I paid for a service leaves me empty and the only conclusion I can draw from this failure to communicate, is that I have been ‘ripped-off.’ I haven’t kept up with KJLH but I’m going to write Ms. DiPrima to find out how many Wealth Management complaints she has received.

My income comes from working in danger to provide a public service. I need what I paid for.

Trusting your services was to be through verification. So far I have ‘NOTHING” from Wealth Management that verifies efforts were made to work with Chase Bank on my behalf. I paid you good money and I have a right to receive good and honest services.

Wealth Management never missed an opportunity to contact me for payments. Once you were paid in full then the burden shifted to me to constantly make demands for updates on what services with Chase Bank were being performed on my behalf.

My suspicions became reality that there are shady business practices at Wealth Management. I went to see YOU at your office. Your staff member Juan, said you were not there, he didn’t know where you were, when you would return or how to get in touch with you. My career in law enforcement kicked in and I knew JUAN was lying.

Now rip-off alarms are going off. I contacted CHASE BANK and was told their file indicates they had only ONE contact by mail from Wealth Management. That contact was your form that I signed for Chase to share my personal information with Wealth Management and a letter from Chase that acknowledges being in receipt of the Authorization to Release Information to Wealth Management. These 2 documents accompany this letter.

If you have any documents that verify any services provided on my behalf with Chase Bank, I want copies. I will accept redacted documents that protect your proprietary information.

If you refuse to verify what services I paid for I want my payments reimbursed.

I expect to receive documents or a refund within 2 weeks (March 31, 2018) to avoid other remedies.

    Seeking a mutually acceptable resolution.

    Yours
    Rene

    Marie never responded.

Marie show some decorum of integrity don’t appear on Dominique’s show again until you ATONE.

    • Rene,

Allow me to apologize to you for the disrespect, discourtesy and atrocious treatment you received by someone who is supposed to be uplifting “us.” Simply put, Marie Deary is the perfect example of one perpetuate the crabs in the barrow concept. When you’re trying to climb up and advance, she’s right behind you grabbing your leg to pull you down.

I would suggest you take Marie to small claims court and sue to get your money back. It appears you have all the documentation to win your case. Please don’t wait too long, as you typically have one year before the statutes of limitation expires.

Also, log onto Yelp, share your story and give her a bad review. You can cut and paste exactly what you wrote on this page.

To the reading audience, there is another incident I had with Marie I want to share you. Before Marie’s bookstore went out of business, my neighbors would often frequent business and would attended the book signings. She and Marie became not friends but good acquaintances.

Well, one day, Marie hosted some type of engagement at her home (I can’t remember the occasion) and invited my neighbor to attend. My neighbor asked me to go with her because she did not want to attend by herself. I grudgingly told her yes thinking no harm would be done. Keep in mind, this was during the early stages when I first began to notice the bad treatment I was receiving by Marie.

So, when we arrived, there were a house full of people. Once spotted, Maria approach us and immediately asked my neighbor to follow her into the kitchen because she wanted to serve her a glass of Cristal. Before leaving, she turned to me and said help yourself to the ice keg on the floor, it’s full of beer, water and soda. I stood there scratching my head saying, “No This Bytch Didn’t.” I thought it was to rudest thing to pull my neighbor away and to offer her a glass of Crystal, yet tell me the knock myself out with what’s in the keg. And the funny thing is, I don’t drink so I would have declined a glass of Crystal anyway had she asked.

Her rudeness was totally uncalled for. Believe me when I say, it took everything and my mama (May she rest in peace) to not to go off and call Marie a “Disrespectful Bytch” in her own house in front of all those people. Because I wasn’t raised that way, I held my tongue and maintained my dignity. I wanted to leave but my neighbor drove that night and I really didn’t want to ruin her evening due to the ignorance of Marie. So, I manned up and endured the evening and made the best of it by socializing with other guests but trust me when I say, the whole time, I feeling some type of way.

A little bit about me: I am an educated black man who have work for 3 fortune 500 companies. and have my master’s degree. In my years, I’ve seen and experience a lot. At this time in my life, it hurts when one of my own people treat me like a second class citizen with no explanation for the treatment.

Considering the many issues we have as a community, we can’t afford to be divided – but as we all know, there are bad seeds in every family and when those seed sprout, they need to chop down to size and exposed for the sake of the village. This is the reason why I am sharing my story.

If Marie is going to fake the funk and pretend like she’s a model citizen of integrity, she got something coming.

Am mentioned in my earlier post, I’m not one to criticize one of my own on social media but it turn my stomach to when I turn into KJLH and hear Marie speaking knowing her shady past. And it’s not just me who feel this way, as testified in Rene’s post and the black business ower at Shade of Afrika.

Since the incident Marie’s house, I’ve only seen her once while shopping at Trader Joe’s in the Belmont Shore – the White part of town in Long Beach. Marie’s mentality reminds me of a privilege white people who swears up and down that African-Americans are a menace to society.

And plesae my people, don’t let Marie fool you with her African accent. Just because she sounds like she “Straight Outt of the Mother Land” doesn’t mean that she’s got love for black folks in America.

She needs to get some serious help. She needs to realize that her repugnant attitude and treatment of people is not cool and if she plans to continue to work in the service field, she needs to clean up her act. Remember, social media is a powerful tool. It could make or break your business, especially when the public is reading review about your business or past behavior. Just ask Bret Kavanaugh.

      P.S.

The night Marie hosted her event, she got tipsy off them glasses of Crystal. I remember it like it was yesterday. Her eyes were glossy, droopy and she was somewhat slurring her words. If she reads my post, perhaps she will “Blame It On The a-a -a-a-a Alcohol.
