Inglewood Mayor James Butts is proposing a 45-day moratorium on rent hikes in the city, where a new rail line and $4.9 billion NFL stadium (plus a potential NBA arena) are helping drive up housing costs—and putting pressure on renters.
Under the proposal, many multi-family building owners would be barred from raising rents by more than 5 percent in a one-year period. It would apply to apartment buildings and other types of rental units—except condominiums and single-family homes—constructed before February 1995. “If a temporary moratorium on residential rent increases were not imposed now, the public health, safety, and welfare of many citizens would be immediately threatened,” Butts writes in his proposal.

Since the passing of proposition 10 it amazes me how Black Americans in California and Spanish-American has not demanded rent control in the state of California. As a Vietnam Era Veteran who became recently homeless in October 2018 not by choice but by separation I find it most difficult to find affordable housing housing in Los Angeles, I tried talking to the VA for assistance but I was told because I’m not mentally physically psychologically something wrong with me I don’t qualify, Yes I do work as a Service tech Maintenance Engineer Transitional Housing for the Salvation Army but yet I do not qualify for any of their programs because it’s family-oriented and I’m considered as a middle class single-income individual. These crumb snatching landlords is making a profit off of registration fees alone knowing that they are not going to rent out the property so they have you fill out these application for 35 $40 and then tell you that the apartment is no longer available ? So you’re out Thirty $40 and application fee is not returned and you back at spending another $35 for a New application fee somewhere else what a scam, if these slumlords want you to pay an application fee to do a background check then why aren’t the tenants obligated to see their history and what type of individual or landlord they are concerning their property ? As a honorable discharge veteran who has served this country it bothers me that no one is speaking out against this trocity of homelessness in Los Angeles California and how these property owners have jacked up their rental prices concerning New move in. Right now in Los Angeles it takes at least about 3,500 到 $4,000 to move in a one-bedroom apartment first month last month and security deposit and you looking to spend about 13 到 $1,500 a month for rent with Street parking and if the unit has a lot on it you pay another $100 to park on the lot off the street what a scam a room or a studio is going for 9:50 到 $1,000 a month as well. The black church is not doing any better for the community because they’re looking for those who have vouchers and not individuals inside the church members who need a place of residency. So the black community as a whole is losing out concerning affordable housing which two Hispanics and all other nationality had joined together to buy some property and live together. Like the old negro song says we shall overcome but I say we have overcome but we need to learn how to work together to continue to keep our community strong. Something that we’re losing everyday and how we’re getting rid of our homes and property for a dime to a donut. The city continues to talk about building affordable housing but there are more vacant buildings in the city than there are homeless veterans and people and there should be some accountability Within These churches or nonprofit organization within their area code to take care of the people who need housing or someone like myself who is the new face of homelessness and working and have no issues concerning drugs alcohol gel mental physical psychological issues. Dominique I’m just keeping it real and I love you and there’s nothing you could do about it thanks for being Sucker Free KJLH front page.. 阿门 (213) 453-1052 或 Afordlove@gmail.com

Exactly why I had to move out of the state of California.
Giving my tax dollars to a state that my children and grandchildren don’t live in that cant take advantage of my tax dollars.
Something needs to be done about these people from other countries, buying up properties with Cash, then raising the rents, that our jobs cant keep up. I lost my son to a cop killer, lost my job because I could not get up, lost my home because of no income, Chinese investors came in with cash, there I was with only option to move out of state to survive. I live in a 4 bedroom 1756 sq ft home for $1100.00 一个月. I am away from my family and my church but it is the price I pay to survive…there is a big difference between living and surviving.

So true So True but We as a people don’t see what happening to us and Our Black Historical Communities that are being chopped up and diversity but we sit back and don’t look at the whole picture of what’s taking place in our community only thing you have to notice is who’s working within those areas and can afford these rents. 您好

I live in Gardena and was forced to move out because the property management company that landlord turned it over to told the landlord that they wanted to retrieve the property back from the tenants to raise the rent an extra $400 all in one month and remodeling. Because he was under market rent. So i had three months to move and still had to pay my rent which was$1000.00. I was not able to save any money so i am now on the streets and i have spent money for credit check just to find out that I don’t make enough income for their rent standards. I am trying so hard to stay strong.
