Sakkara Ingrid Thomas (Queen Sakarah) is the president and founder of Queens Historical Society(QHS), an arts education resource for social studies curriculum creation and production focused on urban area learners and communities. The Society considers itself to be a cultural arts company, exploring the boundaries across various educational disciplines. Queens Historical Society brings the stories of African queens and kings (leaders) into the classroom via the “Festival of African Royalty”, a K-12 classroom literacy program and curricular trip. The Festival of African Royalty counters the absence of African women reflected in many social studies textbooks through its unique blend of ART, HISTORY, and STORYTELLING. Informed by history before the African “Middle Passage”, Queens Historical Society uncovers African female agency in world history and civilization.
