State courts shut door on evictions, some foreclosures

California courts won’t be processing eviction orders and one kind of foreclosure for the next three months, under a California Judicial Council decision this week. Meeting Monday, the council suspended proceedings related to defaults in eviction cases, apparently for both residential and commercial tenants. That follows a state executive order mois dernier suspending residential eviction proceedings through at least the end of May if the tenants can cite COVID-19 pandemic-related reasons as why they can’t make a payment.
