Whether you’re celebrating a traditional 4th of July with flags and fireworks or commemorating our nations great constitution that allows us to take to the streets as part of the movement for Black Lives you probably have a festive weekend on tap. Even if you are heeding the words of Frederick Douglass in his powerful speech “What to the Negro is the 4th of July” where he says: “The rich inheritance of justice, liberty, prosperity and independence, bequeathed by your fathers, is shared by you, not by me…Fellow-citizens, pardon me, allow me to ask, why am I called upon to speak here to-day? What have I, or those I represent, to do with your national independence? Are the great principles of political freedom and of natural justice, embodied in that Declaration of Independence, extended to us?” #BlackLivesMatter #StopKillingUs #AntiRacism #Equity #Representation

Whether plan on marching or partying, chances are you are going to end up having barbeque and hanging out – cause that’s just what we do.

Whatever you choose, please have a safe celebration! No matter what you believe about CoVid-19, you don’t want to get it. The safest way to socialize by far is to stay outdoors. Sunlight and air circulation are key to weakening the virus. Place your chairs six feet apart. Use individually wrapped disposable utensils or pre-wrap your regular ones the day before using clean, gloved hands. You can even prepackage a meal for each guest so that no one handles their plate except them. And use individual packets or servings of condiments so bottles do not have to be passed around. Have drinks in single serving bottles or cans to minimize contact. Do not share serving spoons. Either preset individual servings or have enough serving spoons that each guest gets their own.

Make a plan for how your guests are going to use the bathroom. Have no more than one person in your home at a time. Make sure you have lots of wipes, hand soap and sanitizer in strategic place. Keep 70% alcohol spray handy to use on door handles and faucets, close the lid to the potty before you flush to cut off the toxic toilet plume that can spread the virus. And keep the guest list tight. The more the merrier is not a thing in the age of pandemic. And neither, sadly, are hugs…give a bow, blow a kiss put your hand over your heart…And wash your hands, and wash your hands and wash your hands again…

Lets not let love of country, the movement or love of family lead us to lose our loved ones.

  1. 7/6 – Today’s radio show with Dr. Goff (Geoff?) –
I’m sure you did your best Ms. DePrima, but Goff did not come off as very credible and informed. Voorbeeld: he said people in the country are not getting the virus, just in the city – not true! There is a little country town in Georgia, I think Albany, where at least 25 black folk who attended a funeral together, have gotten the virus and died! He also seemed to be a conspiracy theorist – Hy “thinks they may have frozen the virus before and brought it back now”.
Ongelukkig, It sounds like he may still be suffering the effects of his accident and not thinking clearly. He also said something about wearing masks that didn’t sound very credible – can’t remember his exact words.

    • Hi Ben,
I hear you…Dr. Goss has always been a very far outside of the box thinker. I don’t think it’s the accident. I believe he just sees things very differently than most people. He is an abstract thinker, a chemist, a genius and at times eccentric. He was like that long before the accident. What I do know for sure is that his herbal formulas work. So while I may not take his advice on masks, byvoorbeeld (although he was wearing one) I use his little booklet on herbs almost weekly.

Thank you for listening so closely and sharing your thoughts.
